Great Google(ly) Moogly!

For those of you who don't get the reference above it's from the Kid's Show Maggie and the Beast. But why I am using it today is to share with you all the wonderful Professional Development opportunity some Visitation Teachers had this past weekend to attend the Google Apps for Education (GAFE) Summit at St. Teresa's Academy.

To say we all left inspired is an understatement. We left wanting to change the way our students learn and inspiring them to think bigger and further outside the ever growing box. We learned about all the great things that GAFE and the GAFE community had to offer but also much much more.

We had a great presentation from BreakoutEDU that provides educational content based break out boxes, similar concept to the break out room fad going on in the adult team building world. Mrs. Maxfield and I were happy to brag we made it out in under 35 mins!

We learned about a wonderful tool Pear Deck that syncs with our Google Drive so we can use presentations, documents and more that we already have and make it an interactive experience for our students when they have devices in front of them.

We learned about Google Cardboard and how it can take our students around the world from the comfort of our classroom.

The presentation that touched us all the most was on our last day. Mark Hammond, from BreakoutEDU, talked about the Power of Play and how sometimes the greatest learning comes from figuring things out. He asked us to be the Cow Bell on our staff (I've linked that reference as well) and we are more than happy to take up the charge.

We are so happy to be part of a community and a school that supports our learning. Thank you for this wonderful experience and we can't wait to share it with your students.

Mrs. J
