ART

Mr. Patrick Casey

I love to spend time with my wife Jenny and my daughter Evelyn. Having a baby pool party in the back yard, tending to our garden, and grilling are my favorite things. In my personal time off, I love to create large wood carvings using old tree stumps, chainsaws, chisels, and other woodworking tools. Deck building and carpentry are my specialty, as well as getting in the kitchen and cooking up something delicious with no recipe whatsoever.

Art at Visitation this year:

I am very happy to return to Visitation School! I have had a warm welcome back from students and parents alike. There are many new ideas and art projects planned for this upcoming year.

The kindergarteners are off and running starting strong with a painting project that ended up mostly on the paper and not on their clothes. Meeting the 1st graders for the first time was exciting as well as productive, even though several of them told me that I was loud. I know they will quickly get used to it. The 2nd grade remembers my teaching style and did very well making a grid and illustrating flowers up close.

In the 3rd grade we are creating some really cool abstract owls and drawing as cleanly and carefully as possible. Sometimes I marvel at the creativity our little ones exhibit as such young learners. Third grade ALWAYS impresses. The 4th graders are already creating clay creatures so I know that all I had to do was offer some simple guidance and let them go. It’s the time management and cleanup procedures that challenge even the most level headed teacher, especially me.

5th grade has begun a drawing project that will end as a painting lesson.  I have been impressed by their attempts to draw creatures and plants up close and right off the page. 6th grade has begun a painting lesson inspired by Modigliani’s portraits. We have already studied his greatest works and have begun to develop our own abstract portraits. They will be very cool indeed.

Junior high specials are getting started and moving quickly. Sculpture class are creating stain glass cross designs. Drawing class is working on grid transfer animal images, and painting class is practicing the basics with impressionistic landscapes.

Note: I am planning some auction art work lessons for all the grade levels. I do have support from parents at this time, but keep in mind that I, or some parents, may reach out for some additional materials to make these auctions pieces come together.
