Spanish

Ms. Jane Porter

I have been teaching at Visitation for 5 years. I love it here! I love the warm, friendly atmosphere of the Visitation community. Teaching Spanish is tough at times, but I enjoy the challenge! I have my Masters in Elementary Education and will complete my Specialist in Administration next fall. I have a degree in TESOL and enjoy volunteering to teach English to those of other languages in my spare time.

When I am not teaching I enjoy playing tennis, attending Spanish masses, running in the Kansas City parks, and attending cultural community events around the city.

I have a class website for students to watch videos after class and practice their Spanish. Parents can keep up to date on what we are studying in class here, too. See you at www.VisitationSpanish.weebly.com!

Spanish

Please check under the "Videos" and "Songs" tabs to review phrases that are used in class. Students should come to class prepared by reviewing the videos and songs. We will use the phrases from the videos and songs in classroom conversation practice. Hopefully this way will help your child remember what we are learning in class!

We are continuing a strategy in Spanish class called TPR Storytelling. This gives the students more comprehensible input and able to produce more language. The students learn all kinds of sentence structures and able to speak sentences in our 30 minute class time. They even get a chance to act out the story and create the story!

Attention!

Parents,

Your child will need to watch the posted videos before class and come to spanish prepared to review the material. Since class time is short, students should go to the spanish class website the night before and watch the videos from their grade. Students will be informed in class of the videos they are to watch. Thank you for your help in advancing your child's spanish speaking!
