Welcome Back to School from the Specials Team at Visitation Catholic School. We are excited to share some new information with you.
Technology:
Welcome back to a new year in Technology. I am excited to be back at Visitation for my third year. First off, I did get married this summer so I said goodbye to Miss V. and hello to Mrs. J. The kids are doing a much better job of remembering than I do!
This year I am continuing building compentancies in grades K-6th building on typing, problem solving and basic occupational skills (dragging/dropping). As always there will be strong ties to their core curriculum and even more so this year in 5th and 6th grade. We will be using Google Classroom exclusively for assigning and turning in work 4-8th grade, for more information please click the link below. All students 4-8th know their log in information and have been instructed and encouraged to share that information with you.
In 7/8th grades this year I have evolved our elective opportunities once again. This year I will be offering Intro to Design, Coding and Publications. I am excited about these offerings as are the students. For more information click JR. High Electives below.
Also for those of you who would like to give your students some extra attention to typing, I am offering an after school club that does just that. I have openned it up to 6th grade as well:
Typing and Coding Club
Improve your typing skills while learning to code and create your own interactive game. Students will work on perfecting their typing skills during the first part of the hour long course and then work on coding the second half. The course will be taught by Mrs. Jerome, our Technology teacher with lots of 1:1 instruction. Each session will max out at 30 students so sign up early for a guaranteed spot. This class is only offered during Fall Enrichment.

Welcome back to school:
I am excited to get the school year going with lots of exciting new projects. I am planning some auction art work lessons for all the grade levels. I do have support from parents at this time, but keep in mind that I, or some parents, may reach out for some additional materials to make these auctions pieces come together.
Sincerly,
Patrick Casey
Physical Education:
Welcome Back!! My name is Dave Rush and I am the PE teacher here at Visitation Catholic Grade School. This is my 4th year here at Vis and my 23rd year teaching overall. I love Physical Education and think that movement with a purpose and motivation in Elementary PE leads to a lifetime of healthy activities. My curriculum is broken down into 3 areas of content:
K-2 movement education with an emphasis on loco-motor skills and cooperative learning. Lots of games, repetitive body movements for muscle memory, and building a love for moving.
3-4 gross motor skills, and fine motor development get us ready for individual and team sports. We start using fitness assessments so we can see how we have grown stronger and faster as we have gotten older.
5-8 we are ready for the big time. Cardio work-outs and flexibility assessments are mixed in with the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness Testing battery. We rotate individual sports, team sports, and lifetime leisure sports into our rotations for a good overall mix of activities.
I encourage you to discuss what activities are going on in PE with your child and get out there with them and play along after school is out. Let me know if I can help out with any activities your children have going on. I love to hear about all their successes outside of school.

Thanks for your support and encouragement. I love being here with all of you.

Music (5-8):
Welcome back! I am Diana Edwin and I have been teaching music at Visitation School since 2006, but have been making music for as long as I can remember! I began playing the violin and singing in choirs when I was seven years old. I am so thankful that my parents encouraged me to pursue my love for music and that I have had the opportunity to participate and perform with a number of wonderful musical ensembles.
Like Mrs. Jerome, I will be using Google Classroom to make my classroom more interactive. Along with Google Classroom I recently completed my new website. On the website you will be able to find out all about what your students are up to when they visit me at Music Class. Please check it out when you have a chance: http://dedwin1.wix.com/vis-kids
Thanks!
Diana Edwin
Music (K-4):
Hello,
My name is Rick Ashby and I am the new k-4 Music teacher. I have enjoyed getting to know my new students over the past few weeks. I currently split my time between St. Patrick's School and Visitation, I am at Visitation every afternoon. I look forward to meeting you all as the school year progresses.
Thanks,
Rick Ashby
Spanish:
Bienvenidos de nuevo a la escuela. I have been teaching at Visitation for 6 years. I love it here! I love the warm, friendly atmosphere of the Visitation community. Teaching Spanish is tough at times, but I enjoy the challenge! I have my Masters in Elementary Education and will complete my Specialist in Administration next fall. I have a degree in TESOL and enjoy volunteering to teach English to those of other languages in my spare time.
I have a class website for students to watch videos after class and practice their Spanish. Parents can keep up to date on what we are studying in class here, too. See you at www.VisitationSpanish.weebly.com!
Gracias,
Jane Porter
